Mountain Dulcimer Workshop

Held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
at the Carroll County Arts Center

The Mountain Dulcimers "Sweet Pickins" organized as an affiliate group of the Carroll County Arts as a workshop offering in August 2007, when De Warner offered to instruct a workshop for those interested in learning to play the dulcimer. Her love of the craft was over whelming received by the 30 people who arrived for the first workshop session.

All are welcome from the beginner to the well seasoned to join. Learn and share your talents. Two extra instruments are available for loan to beginning players.

The Dulcimer is wonderful stringed instrument with a rich musical heritage spanning continents and millenmia. The lap dulcimer brings the spirit of Appalachian Mountain music to everyone. The 4-string lap dulcimer has a genuine wood body, and normally has decorative sound holes. This instrument has a traditional teardrop shape and features a melodious drone that appeals to anyone wanting to explore American folk traditions.

The Simplicity and easy playing action of the lap dulcimer makes it perfect for novice musicians, music educators and the classroom. Plan to join our Mountain Dulcimers group to learn, play along with or maybe just to enjoy the sounds. You will find yourself tapping your foot along with the rhythmic beat moments after the session begins.

The group "Sweet Pickin's" has provided entertainment at the Carroll Health Care; Carroll County Arts Annual Dinner and recently at the Artist’s Reception in January. They also most recently preform at Dancing on the Bridge in Malvern.
